Its often the simple overlooked parts of our lives, the parts we take for granted that can make a huge difference. So too with the timeless, simple and profound practice of Forest Bathing.
The practice of Forest Therapy is about being in nature and connecting to the sentient beingness of the forest. The New Yorker magazine described it thus, ‘The Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku—literally translated as “forest bathing”—is based on a simple premise: immerse yourself in the forest, absorb its sights, sounds, and smells, and you will reap numerous psychological and physiological benefits.’
The most common health benefits of Forest Therapy are:
– Increasing immunity and natural killer cells activity and quantity
– Decreased risk of heart attack- reducing blood pressure and heart rate
– Protection against obesity and diabetes – reducing blood sugar levels
– More energy and better sleep – decreasing cortisol levels in the body
– Mood-boosting effects – increasing endorphins
– Decreased inflammation through an increase in CO2 – clearer skin, pain relief
Come join us for a two hour deep dive into the magic of the New Zealand Forest with a forest bathing walk. We meet next to The Auckland Museum where you will learn about the history of The Auckland Domain Park and its history as an extinct volcano.
Then we will head into the beautiful walking tracks where you will be guided on a slow meditative walk, taking you deep into the heart of the New Zealand native forest.
The guided walk, meditations and breathing exercises will support you in having a transformative nature experience. We will stop along the way and learn about the native plant species surrounding us, before walking back. This tour finishes with a tea circle, where we will share delicious tea made from the native Kawakawa leaf we have found on our walk.
This tour has a maximum of 10 people, for a quiet and reflective experience.
We will meet outside the museum (side facing the harbour).
